Louis at Christmas
Date: 15/1/2009
Well, Christmas finally arrived and I was so looking forward to a few days rest and masses of food!

December was a busy month that started with the World Cup Final in Madrid - not as big as the football version but still the best 8 pommel horse workers on the planet from the last 2 years of Grand Prix events. I completed my 15th clean International routine of the year, a little bit shaky, but still on track for 4th place, a good result after the craziness of the post Olympic months.

Sunday morning after the competition was interesting: a 4am start to get to the airport in order to be whisked off to Liverpool for a Sports Personality appearance that same day. It didn't all go to plan... the taxi didn't arrive, Heathrow was fogbound which delayed us for a few hours and the driver at the other end locked the car keys in the boot of his brand new Chrysler! BBC were panicking a bit as we arrived with minutes to spare of rehearsal time and frantic costume changes in order to be ready for the live event. That routine in front of an audience of 9000 and around 10 million watching on TV was one of my most nerve wracking to date, and brought back memories of the Beijing Final. Thankfully, I stayed on and could enjoy seeing Chris Hoy win the title which was an amazing result when you think about what he achieved.

A couple of displays later and I found myself in the Christmas holidays, all 4 days of them. My coach is so kind and I celebrated with a monster Christmas meal, courtesy of mum, with all the trimmings and plenty of sausages wrapped in bacon. New Years Eve was a blast and gave me a chance to catch up with some mates from the village and around Peterborough - It's great being normal!

I feel a bit heavy and gym has started back with plenty of circuits to get me into shape ready for the European Championships in April. Back on the treadmill chasing the medals......
