A month on the road
Date: 23/7/2010
Pretty much the whole of my June has been spent out on the road riding in the British Cycling Elite Circuit Series. I was part of the Motorpoint Marshalls Pasta squad. Our team included myself, Keith Lambert, Steven Burke, Andy Tennant and Johnny McEvoy.

Over five weeks we had events in 10 towns and cities around the country and the events take place on Tuesday and Thursday evenings. A lot of travelling is involved as we don't head North to South (or vice versa) as you would think, we are literally all over the place and the travelling can be tiring.

We started in Canary Wharf on the 25th May and two days later were competing up in Durham. The following week it was Portsmouth and Exeter, then Southport and Kettering, then Peterborough and Stoke on Trent. Finally we competed in Chester and Woking during the last week of June. The events are all televised and tend to draw in good crowds to watch the local races so there is a really good atmosphere.

All of the events went really well for Motorpoint. Our team won the overall series by three points to beat second placed team, Endura. It was a fantastic team result for us.

On 30th June I went to a school in Woodford Green along with BMX World Champion, Mike Mullen, to talk to pupils at Woodbridge High School about the benefits of cycling. We had to answer a range of questions about cycling and the best way to get involved.

At the beginning of July I competed with Andrew Tennant and Steve Burke in the RTTC Team Time Trial National Championships. We cruised round the 33 mile circuit that started and ended in Middleton Tyas, North Yorkshire to win with by 1 minute and 19 seconds. We were so pleased as we are all team pursuit specialists and were going head to head with many time trial specialists. Our team is used to much shorter distances but going at a much faster speed so we had to ensure we paced ourselves, especially when we were very quickly 25 seconds ahead of the rest. Thankfully we kept it together and didn't hit any mechanical or other problems.

Over the coming weeks I will be competing at events in Stafford, Abergavenny, Colne, Beveley and lots more so come back next month to see how those events have gone.
