A successful summer for Ed Clancy
Date: 1/9/2010
July was a really good month for me; I enjoyed competing and had some great success out on the road. I did three town centre races - Stafford, Beverley and Blackburn. This was part of the National Elite Circuit Series.

The first event was in Stafford where I was on fantastic form. It's an evening event racing around the town centre and it pulled in some big crowds. This is one of the most twisting and turning courses in the series and is a great course if you are feeling good, but a horrible one if you are feeling bad. Towards the end of the race there were several bikers in contention but I had a great sprint finish to get first place.

This success was followed by another event the week later in Beverley. This was a great race for me with another sprint finish needed on the final lap to overtake the leading pack of four cyclists. It was a very close finish between me and Ian Wilkinson with just half a wheel between us.

Blackburn was the final destination in the series a week later and I am delighted to say I won that too. The weather was really bad for this event and so the crowds didn't show up like the previous races but I was delighted to finish in first place. It was a fantastic three weeks for me and it was great to be back to winning ways.

August was slightly quieter for me on the racing front but I still had some good events. At the start of the month I made a public appearance at a Chicken Farm in the Lake District for McDonalds who are one of the sponsors for London 2012.

In the middle of the month I went to Blackpool to try and defend my Nocturne title. This is a night race so you have the challenge of cycling in darkness. It was a 900 metre circuit based around Blackpool's Winter Gardens. This is a popular event which draws in some good crowds along the Golden Mile on Blackpool promenade. The event was won by Dean Downing from the Rapha Condor Sharp team.

To give myself a break from cycling I had a day out at Silverstone to watch the Touring Cars which I really enjoyed and it does you good to have a break from training and competing and do something different every now and then. However a few days later I was back in the Lake District for a cycling training camp. My training is now very much focused on the Tour of Britain which starts on the 11th September.

Come back soon to read my final blog and see where I have been competing.
