World Cup Sucess for Jess
Date: 1/3/2011
During February I competed in the World Cup in Manchester. This was the 4th leg of World Cup events and I was excited about cycling in front of a home crowd.

In the Team Sprint I partnered Becky Jones and I did the first lap. This was a great competition for me as I achieved a personal best and was the first British girl to go under 19 seconds with a time of 18.9. This was the boost I needed ahead of the World Championships that are coming up in a few weeks time.

Becky and I finished in 4th place and were ahead of the other Team GB pair (Victoria Pendleton and Shanaze Read) by four tenths of a second. This was a brilliant result for us both although it's always disappointing to just miss a medal opportunity. The Australian Team won the Gold Meal with the Chinese duo taking the Silver.

I also competed in the individual event and finished in 5th place overall with a time of xx. This was a good result for me and I was pleased with a top eight performance. The event was won by Anna Meares with Team GB cyclist, Victoria Pendleton winning the bronze medal.

My preparations for the World Championships are going really well and I've just found out I have been selected to compete in the Team Sprint with Victoria Pendleton. She's someone I really admire in cycling and I was pleased the work I'd put in before and during the World Cup had paid off.

Make sure you read my blog about the World Championships to see how Victoria and I got on.
