My first yougo4it blog
Date: 4/7/2011
My name is Jade Jones and I take part in the sport of Taekwondo. I had my first taste of martial arts when I was just 8 years old when I took part in a semi-contact style. It was my grandad who wanted to get me involved in the sport to keep me of the streets and I fell in love with the sport very quickly. In 2008 I moved to the Olympic style of Taekwondo which is full contact. This was the best move I could've made and I've had a fantastic few years of competing since then.

In 2010 I won a gold medal at the Youth Olympic Games and earlier this year I won a silver medal at the Senior World Championships. This is brilliant for my preparations with the London 2012 Olympic Games just over a year away.

I train for 4 or 5 hours every day, six days a week so training takes up a large part of my life. The type of training I do will depend on what phase I am in but a typical morning would include practising kicks, sparring and pad work. In the afternoon I may do some running and work on my agility. Before a competition my training time would get shorter so that I have maximum energy to compete. I also have a psychologist that I work with once a week to ensure my mind is in the best state possible for competing. This is a very important part of this sport.

What I eat is important whilst I am training. I'm not really on a strict diet but I do need to follow a healthy diet and make sure I am looking after my body as I need my weight to stay under 57kg.
I am currently having a few weeks off to give my body some rest and I've just enjoyed catching up with friends that I've not seen for a while. We've just been out for meals and to the cinema. It has been nice to relax a bit before the next phase of training and competitions begin.

In July I am going to a Training Camp in Korea where my next competition will also take place. There will be a lot of pressure out there because of the amount of competition in my weight category. And Korea is the place where Taekwondo began! I'm really looking forward to it though.

Come back next month to read how my trip to Korea went.
