It's getting closer...
Date: 19/4/2012

When I wrote my last blog I was heading to Slovenia as part of the World Pro Tour. This was a good tournament for me as I had some good wins and improved my world ranking.

I've continued to train in Austria the last few months which has been really hard work. There is so much for me to train for right now though as those Olympic places are up for grabs. Training involves running, using the bike machines and lifting weights. I obviously do lots of technical training to improve my game but the fitness has to be there. I've also been taking part in some club matches as I compete for Barrow Table Tennis Club. We've had a good few months as a club.

The English National Championships took place at the beginning of March. This was a really important event in the British rankings so I needed to perform well. I competed in both the individual event and the men's doubles. In the doubles I partnered Danny Reed and we beat the favourites Paul Drinkhall and Liam Pitchford to win the championship. We were so pleased with this performance. I made it to the semi-final in the individual event and competed against Paul Drinkhall in a close match.

Unfortunately I didn't win this one but Paul went on to win the overall tournament so I know how close I was and will keep on working hard.

Another event for me this month was my birthday on the 22nd February. I was the grand old age of 22. Although birthdays are very exciting it was just like another day for me as I had to continue with my training regime.

This month I found out that I was down to the last few players in the Olympic selection. There were ten of us in the running but this has now been reduced to six and there are three places available. I will find out in a few months if I am one of those three players. I've got everything crossed! My actual world ranking hasn't improved as much as I had hoped but I am on the right track and I know the potential is there. I will do everything I can to be part of the team and I have so much to offer as I aim to inspire young people out there.

Make sure you come back and read my final blog in April.
